Couple of weeks ago I got a call from my client, asking if i could head on over to Cadwell park and snap some shots of Steve Plater testing. The client wanted two types of images
before we get down to pictures I’m just gunna run you through my thought process, before I get to a job like this. Sometimes this can be over a couple of days however in this case it all happened while I was in the car on the way to the track.
Its always fairly important to go into a job like this knowing what you need to get out of it other wise its all to easy to shoot what you want and not for fill the clients requirements.
With me so far?
For 1 the images I am going to be looking at getting are
Tight apex of the corner stuff
Crest of the hill is always a good clean shot, subs often also quite like it shot a little loose as they can use the dead space (in this case the tarmac) to put text over and produce a interesting layout.
Another example of creating dead space
Head on is always a good way to shoot. When doing any sort of job like this where your never too sure what they want its always worth shooting the same image but in a couple of diffrent ways
Loose!
Tight!
Landscape
Ok so thats number one sorted what about point number two.
Ok so number two is
images that are clearly from Cadwell.
This means that I want to be working with the location and the characteristics that are unique to the track for Cadwell one thing stands out, The mountain!
Again you can never shoot the shot enough diffrent ways
Tight
Loose
Slow
and so on (I’m sure you get the idea)
Normaly for locating shots I would shoot wide and get the abiance going on however it was wet (very wet) dull gray and not great photos for “showing off the surroundings”
However Cadwell is a very wooded track so I used the trees to add features to the images
Final thing to shoot is some pit stuff Steve doing his job, interacting with the media and also just some posed up portraits.
Steve Plater possible the most smiley man in Uk Motorbike racing, however its always good to get them with a few different expressions.
Sad
Happy!
That about rounds up a very hectic 3 hours at a wet and muddy Cadwell Park
